چکیده

We study the effect of perturbations on the Price of Anarchy for the Traffic Assignment Problem. Adopting the smoothed analysis approach, we randomly perturb the latency functions of the given network and estimate the expected Price of Anarchy on the perturbed instances. We provide both theoretical and experimental results that show that the Smoothed Price of Anarchy is of the same order of magnitude as the original one. 1998 ACM Subject Classification G.2.2 Network Problems

Different Network Performance Measures in a Multi-Objective Traffic Assignment Problem

Traffic assignment algorithms are used to determine possible use of paths between origin-destination pairs and predict traffic flow in network links. One of the main deficiencies of ordinary traffic assignment methods is that in most of them one measure (mostly travel time) is usually included in objective function and other effective performance measures in traffic assignment are not considere...

Data-driven Estimation of Origin-Destination Demand and User Cost Functions for the Optimization of Transportation Networks

In earlier work (Zhang et al., 2016) we used actual traffic data from the Eastern Massachusetts transportation network in the form of spatial average speeds and road segment flow capacities in order to estimate Origin-Destination (OD) flow demand matrices for the network. Based on a Traffic Assignment Problem (TAP) formulation (termed “forward problem”), in this paper we use a scheme similar to...

Probit-Based Traffic Assignment: A Comparative Study between Link-Based Simulation Algorithm and Path-Based Assignment and Generalization to Random-Coefficient Approach

Probabilistic approach of traffic assignment has been primarily developed to provide a more realistic and flexible theoretical framework to represent traveler’s route choice behavior in a transportation network. The problem of path overlapping in network modelling has been one of the main issues to be tackled. Due to its flexible covariance structure, probit model can adequately address the pro...

The Price of Stochastic Anarchy

We consider the solution concept of stochastic stability, and propose the price of stochastic anarchy as an alternative to the price of (Nash) anarchy for quantifying the cost of selfishness and lack of coordination in games. As a solution concept, the Nash equilibrium has disadvantages that the set of stochastically stable states of a game avoid: unlike Nash equilibria, stochastically stable s...

The Price of Routing Unsplittable Flow

The essence of the routing problem in real networks is that the traffic demand from a source to destination must be satisfied by choosing a single path between source and destination. The splittable version of this problem is when demand can be satisfied by many paths, namely a flow from source to destination. The unsplittable, or discrete version of the problem is more realistic yet is more co...
